José Antonio Encinar Garcinuño
Catedrático de Universidad
José A. Encinar obtuvo el título de Ingeniero de Telecomunicación en 1979 y el grado de doctor en 1985, ambos por la Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM). Desde 1980 ha sido profesor de la ETSI de Telecomunicación de Madrid. Desde febrero a octubre de 1987 realizó una estancia en “Polytechnic University”, en Brooklyn, NY, como Profesor Visitante. Desde 1991 es Catedrático de Universidad en el en el Grupo de Electromagnetismo Aplicado (GEA), actualmente adscrito al Departamento de Señales, Sistemas y Radiocomunicaciones de la UPM. En 1996 realizó una estancia la “Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), Suiza, como Profesor Visitante. Ha realizado dos estancias como Profesor Visitante en la “Queen’s University Belfast” durante 2006 y 2011.
José A. Encinar es “Fellow Member” del IEEE, ha obtenido los premios: “2005 Harold A. Wheeler Applications Prize Paper” y “2007 S. A. Schelkunoff Transactions Prize Paper Award” de la Sociedad de Antenas del IEEE, es autor y coautor de unos cien artículos en revistas científicas (48 de ellos en el “IEEE Transactions on Antennas and Propagation”, que es la revista de mayor prestigio en el campo de antenas), de más de doscientas publicaciones en congresos nacionales e internacionales y de cinco patentes, dos de ellas con extensión internacional. Es coautor del libro “Reflectarray Antennas” (Wiley, 2008), y de varios capítulos de libro sobre antenas reflectarray.
José A. Encinar tiene una amplia experiencia en el desarrollo de herramientas software para el análisis y diseño de antenas impresas multicapa tipo array y reflectarray, así como en el diseño, fabricación y medida de demostradores para diferentes aplicaciones. Ha realizado contribuciones significativas en el desarrollo de las antenas tipo reflectarray, tales como: 1) mejora del ancho de banda empleando parches apilados, celdas multi-resonantes, y líneas de retardo; 2) diseño y demostración de antenas reflectarray de haz conformado en banda Ku para satélites DBS; y 3) diseño y demostración de antenas reflectarray multihaz, que permiten reducir el numero de antenas en el satélite (de 4 a 2) para generar coberturas celulares en banda Ka.
La actividad de investigación llevada a cabo por el Profesor Encinar se centra principalmente en el desarrollo de nuevas tecnologías de antenas basadas en estructuras localmente periódicas para aplicaciones espaciales, tales como antenas de satélite de difusión directa (DBS) y antenas de satélite multi haz en banda Ka. Entre sus trabajos, cabe destacar el diseño eléctrico del subreflector dicroico de banda S/X para la Antena de Alta Ganancia (HGA) de las misiones «Mars Express» y «Venus Express», que han estado en funcionamiento con resultados satisfactorios. En la actualidad, sus líneas de investigación se centran en el desarrollo de nuevas configuraciones de antena reflectarray para generar coberturas celulares de banda ancha en ondas milimétricas, tanto desde satélites GEO y LEO como en el despliegue de las nuevas redes de 5G en ondas milimétricas.
